The seasons are changing—and so is my skin. As we step into spring, I always find it’s the perfect time to refresh not just my wardrobe, but also my skincare lineup. Winter requires richer, barrier-repairing products, but spring? It’s all about light layers, deep hydration, and glow. Here are the exact swaps I’m making this season to keep my skin clear, dewy, and happy.
1. Trading Rich Creams for Lightweight Gels (Mostly)
My skin loves a thick moisturizer in the colder months, but as temperatures rise, I start feeling congested. This spring, I’m reaching for gel-based moisturizers that hydrate without suffocating. Think water creams packed with hyaluronic acid and peptides.
That said, there’s one richer cream I haven’t been able to part with: the Barrier Restore Cream from Rhode. It’s technically a bit heavier, but it melts into the skin in the most comforting, non-greasy way. I’ve been using it at night or after active ingredients, and my skin wakes up feeling plump, calm, and genuinely restored. It’s one of those products that just gets it—especially if your skin barrier is feeling a little fragile after winter. Safe to say, it’s earned a permanent spot on my shelf.
2. Prioritizing Hydrating Serums Over Heavy Oils
I’m swapping out thick face oils for serums with niacinamide, polyglutamic acid, and glycerin. These ingredients deliver hydration without sitting on top of the skin. I still love a facial oil, but I reserve it for nights when my skin needs extra love.
3. Reapplying SPF Religiously
I never skip SPF (you already know this), but spring is when I really double down on reapplication. I keep a powder SPF in my bag for touch-ups on the go—especially when I’m out walking Mr. Bentley or heading to a patio lunch. My current fave? Supergoop! (Re)setting 100% Mineral Powder SPF 35.
4. Swapping Retinol for Gentle Exfoliation (Some Nights)
Retinol is my ride or die, but as the days get longer and I spend more time outside, I take it down a notch. Instead, I rotate in Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peels a few times a week to maintain clarity and brightness without overdoing it.
5. Focusing on Brightening + Barrier Support
Spring is the season of radiance. So I’m adding in products with vitamin C (but stabilized formulas—no irritation allowed) and keeping my barrier strong with ceramide-rich moisturizers and barrier-repairing masks once a week.
Less is More
As always, I keep my skincare routine intentional. Just because it’s a new season doesn’t mean I overhaul everything—I just listen to my skin, make thoughtful swaps, and focus on products that serve a purpose. And if it’s not Wellrobe approved, it’s not making it into the lineup.
