Fashion’s biggest night is finally here—and let me tell you, the Met did not disappoint. If you love couture, culture, and creativity as much as I do, then tonight was a dream come to life. The 2025 Met Gala was a masterclass in meaning-meets-style, all unfolding under this year’s powerful theme: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, with a focus on “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”—a celebration of Black dandyism, self-expression, and the art of tailoring.
So, What Is the Met Gala?
For my fellow fashion lovers who may be new to the scene, the Met Gala is the Oscars of the fashion world. Held annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, it marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibit. But it’s so much more than a fundraiser—it’s where fashion becomes storytelling. It’s where we see bold risks, genius interpretations, and jaw-dropping craftsmanship. Simply put, it’s the night where clothes become history.
Fashion Fun Fact: When the Met Gala first began in 1948, it was just a quiet midnight supper, and tickets were $50. Fast-forward to today: tickets cost upwards of $75,000, and it’s the place to be seen.
The Theme: “Superfine”
This year’s exhibit, inspired by scholar Monica L. Miller’s Slaves to Fashion, explored the legacy and beauty of Black dandyism—how Black men and women have used tailoring and style as forms of resistance, elegance, and self-definition. Think velvet suits, double-breasted blazers, dramatic lapels, silky cravats, and proud silhouettes. It was polished, it was poetic—it was powerfully done.
Fashion Royalty: Pharrell, A$AP Rocky, and Lewis Hamilton
Let’s talk about the men of the moment. The co-chairs didn’t come to play—they came to make fashion history.
- Pharrell Williams stepped onto the carpet in Chanel, echoing Western-meets-Parisian tailoring with a twist only he could pull off. Cowboy boots, pearls, and a sharply tailored jacket? Only Pharrell.
- A$AP Rocky gave us high fashion edge, as always. His look channeled both Harlem Renaissance glamour and punk attitude. He layered his tailored look with symbolism, confidence, and swagger. It’s giving elegant rebellion.
- Lewis Hamilton looked every inch the fashion-forward gentleman in a sleek custom suit. As always, he used his look to uplift Black designers, staying true to both the theme and his mission of inclusion in fashion.
A Moment Worth Remembering
This year’s Met wasn’t just a red carpet. It was a cultural archive. It reminded us that fashion is not just about looking good—it’s about telling stories, honoring heritage, and expressing who we are. And tonight, we witnessed fashion at its most refined, most fearless, and most fabulous.
