After an unintentional break from blogging, I’m back—this time with what feels like my final pass at saying it: Happy New Year!
At the start of the year, I wasn’t burnt out or exhausted, just simply tired. That’s when I leaned into the power of self-check-ins—a practice that keeps me aligned, grounded, and moving in the right direction. With that in mind, I’m excited to share a fresh day-planning strategy that prioritizes intention, balance, and self-care—a blueprint for reclaiming your time and energy.

1. Prioritize Your Morning Routine (Start Like a Queen)

I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but I can’t stress this enough: your morning sets the tone for the entire day. When your morning is structured, it has a ripple effect on everything that follows.

Wake Up 2 Hours Before Work: Yes, this is a must. This is YOUR time—no emails, no scrolling through your phone. It’s the perfect window to start your day with purpose, whether that’s with a cup of coffee or a moment of quiet.

Hydrate with Lemon Water and Salt: Hydration is key for both physical and mental clarity. The salt helps balance your electrolytes, giving you a nice detox to start your day.

Optional Chicken Broth: OK, hear me out on this one. If you’re looking to level up your wellness game, sipping on some chicken broth is a total game-changer. It’s packed with collagen, protein, and gut-loving nutrients. Give it a try and pay attention to how it makes you feel.

Take Your Vitamins: This is your chance to give your body the nutrients it needs to power through the day. It’s a simple step, but it makes a difference.

Coffee (But Not Too Much): Sip slowly and savor the ritual. A little caffeine can go a long way, but the goal here is energy—not the jittery kind.

2. Power Through a Journaling & Reading Block

I’m all about journaling—it’s a powerful way to release emotions and connect with your thoughts. Plus, reading is like a workout for your brain. Together, they create a space to get centered before diving into the day.

Set a Timer for Reading (25 Minutes): Find a book that inspires you. Lately, I’m all about Start with Why—it’s the perfect read to remind you of your deeper purpose, especially when you’re feeling unmotivated or stuck.

Journal to Your Heart’s Content: Use the rest of your morning time to journal. Get into the flow. Start with prompts like: “What do I want today to feel like?” or “What do I need to let go of in order to move forward?” There’s no right or wrong way to journal—just get your thoughts out and reconnect with your goals.

3. Get Moving—Walk, Clear Your Mind

Taking a 30-minute walk is a great way to clear your head and get your body moving. If you’re into podcasts or audiobooks, this is the time to listen to something that aligns with your focus for the day. Personally, I love listening to business podcasts, motivational speakers, or personal development audiobooks. It’s like a mini mental reset.

But even without the headphones, the key here is to move. Being in nature and getting your blood pumping without distractions is like hitting the reset button for your mind.

4. Take a Deep Breath & Plan Your Day

When you get back from your walk, it’s time to map out your day. This is where intention comes into play. Planning your day isn’t about cramming in every little task—it’s about being intentional with how you spend your time.

Write Down Your Top 3 Priorities: These are the must-do items on your list. Everything else can wait.

Block Out Time for Each Task: But—here’s the key—leave some buffer time in between. Life happens, and the last thing you want is to feel rushed. This allows for spontaneity or much-needed breaks.

Be Realistic with Your Schedule: The Skinny Confidential says it best: “Keep it real. Don’t over-schedule yourself. Aim for productivity, not perfection.” It’s all about finding that balance where you feel accomplished without burning out.

5. When You’re Feeling Unmotivated: Reframe & Refocus

We all have those days when motivation is MIA. Instead of spiraling, use these strategies to shift your mindset and break free from the funk.

Shift Your Mindset: Don’t beat yourself up for feeling unmotivated. Everyone has off days. Instead of thinking “I can’t do this,” tell yourself, “I’m just getting started” or “I have everything I need to succeed today.” A little mental reframing can do wonders.

Set a Micro-Goal: If a big task feels overwhelming, break it down into smaller steps. For example, if you’re dreading answering emails, just commit to writing the first two sentences. If you’re avoiding a workout, promise yourself to move for just 10 minutes.

Take a Break: Sometimes, you just need to step away and recharge. Whether it’s a quick walk, stretching, or just breathing deeply, taking a moment to reset can bring back your energy.

6. Wrap Up with Gratitude

As your day comes to a close, take a moment to reflect. Even if it felt like a struggle to stay on track, there’s always something to be thankful for. Ending your day with intention can create a sense of closure and peace.

Gratitude Journal: What went well today? What are you grateful for? Even the smallest wins are worth acknowledging.

Revisit Your Vision Board: Before bed, take a moment to look at your vision board or whatever visual reminder you have of your long-term goals. This helps to keep you aligned with the bigger picture, even when you’re in the weeds of the day-to-day.

The Bottom Line: Consistency + Intentionality = Success

Planning your day isn’t about being rigid or perfect—it’s about creating a rhythm that works for you. When you blend reflection, health, productivity, and self-care into your daily routine, you’re setting yourself up for long-term success.

So, to all the busy women out there: take control of your morning, plan with purpose, and don’t let burnout win. Your hustle starts with YOU. Stay grounded, stay consistent, and watch how it transforms your life.
